5 Ways to Beat Back Pain This Winter

Back pain is one of the most common complaints we see over the Winter months at our Physiotherapy clinic in Stewarton. Our team know, that as soon as Winter comes around, we will start seeing more and more cases of back pain come through our doors.

Often this happens because we start to become more inactive as the cold, dark, long days set it. We become a little more “lazy”, skipping our usual daily walks or weekly gym sessions.

You see, our bodies love to move. Regular movement is essential for us to maintain our function as we grow older. As we get into Winter, this lack of movement can cause old aches and pains to flare up, usually we find it is lower back pain. If your lower back pain is grumbling away, it’s usually telling you it’s not happy about something recently.

What can you do to stop this?

The easiest answer is to keep moving in any way you can! You don’t have to be outdoors. Some gentle stretching or flexibility work indoors, can make a huge difference.

Look into being accountable to someone else, partner up with a walking or gym buddy to keep you both accountable to getting outdoors. There’s no such things as bad weather, just bad clothing!
