10 "Superpowers" of Massage
I can tell you firsthand about some of the superpowers of massage. Our Massage Therapist Gordon has been, and will be, a key part of my recovery during my training for the Yorkshire Marathon in October! It was on my long run this weekend that I got the inspiration for this very email!
Massage has been around for thousands of years, apparently dating back to 2700 BCE in Ancient China (according to Google!). In the physiotherapy world, it can face regular scrutiny from certain professionals due to false claims by some about what massage actually does. However, there is no escaping the fact that massage can make us feel great! Here are some of the 10 “superpowers” of massage:
Muscle Relaxation: Eases perception of muscle tension and reduces feelings of stiffness.
Pain Relief: Alleviates soreness and discomfort from pain/injury.
Improved Circulation: Enhances blood flow to help with the healing process.
Reduced Inflammation: Decreases swelling and promotes tissue repair.
Flexibility and Range of Motion: Increases mobility and flexibility in soft tissues.
Stress Reduction: Lowers cortisol levels and promotes relaxation.
Enhanced Immune Function: Boosts the immune system by reducing stress hormones.
Faster Recovery: Shortens recovery time post-exercise or injury.
Better Sleep: Improves sleep quality, aiding overall recovery.
Mental Clarity: Reduces mental fatigue and improves focus.
